Pourerere Beach House
This was a special project for a family who had been coming to the beach for generations, the old bach was beyond repair but was one of a collection of similar baches that run along the base of the sea cliff at Pourerere. The site is quite small which limited the footprint of the house and with the clients brief meant that the house needed to be 2 storeys. The simple form, gable roof, roof slopes, materials, planning and proportions all come from studying the old baches on the beach. 4 bedrooms and a large shower room are on the upper level, with an open plan kitchen/living/dining room opening out on to a sheltered deck looking out to sea. A beautiful solid oak stair leads up to the top level.
